Can I use an AI voice in a paid ad?

Yes, on any paid plan. Commercial usage rights come with Starter (₹499 a month) and above, so a spot made on a paid plan can run on radio, in a reel, on YouTube, in a store or on a hoarding screen. The Free plan is for trying voices: you get about 10 minutes of audio and can download your first 5 clips, but it is not meant for a campaign.Yes, on any paid plan. The Free plan is for trying voices: you get about 10 minutes of audio and can download your first 5 clips, but it is not meant for a campaign.

Two things to check before the spot airs. First, if you clone a voice, you must have the right to use it: a voice artist's or an ambassador's voice needs their consent. Second, advertising standards guidance in India now covers labelling of AI-made audio in ads. Read the current guidance before you air, because the label rules sit with the advertiser, not with the voice tool.

The clip above is a retail offer read by Ava, an American English voice, with the percentage and the end date read as a person would say them.

Will it say the price and the offer date right?

An ad is mostly numbers that matter: 40% off, ₹499, ends October 31, 2 GB a day, 0% EMI. If the voice gets one of these wrong, the spot is useless. Chariot reads written text the way a person says it: currency, percentages, dates, units and abbreviations come out as speech, not as digits. You write "₹499" and the voice says it as a rupee amount. You do not have to write "four hundred and ninety nine rupees".

In Chariot's own evaluation on English and Hindi, the model read hard written text (dates, currencies, URLs, units) correctly 94.0% of the time, first of the nine systems tested.

The clip below is a Diwali offer in Hindi read by Kabir, one of 12 native Hindi voices. Listen for the amounts and the date.

Can one script become a Hindi, Tamil and Marathi version?

Regional versions are where the budget usually dies: a new artist, a new studio day and a new round of approvals for every language. With Chariot the script is the only thing that changes. Chariot reads 15+ languages, including 11 Indian languages (Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia and Punjabi) plus English, German and Chinese.

Each Indian language has 2 native voices, Hindi has 12, and every voice can read every supported language. That means the Marathi version and the Hindi version can be the same voice, which keeps the campaign sounding like one brand instead of eleven.

Most Indian ad scripts are not in one language anyway: the brand name, the offer and the call to action are often in English inside a Hindi or Tamil sentence. Chariot reads Hinglish and other mixes of an Indian language with English as one sentence. It also reads Hindi written in Roman letters, which is how a lot of agency copy is written.

Speed is adjustable from 0.5x to 1.5x, which is how you fit a 32 second read into a 30 second slot without cutting a word.

Can the ad use the voice our brand already has?

If your brand has an established voice, record or upload 10 to 60 seconds of it (about 30 seconds works best) and the clone is ready in about 10 to 20 seconds. The cloned voice speaks every language Chariot speaks, so a voice that was only ever recorded in Hindi can read the Kannada version.

Cloned voices are included on paid plans: 3 on Starter, 10 on Creator, 50 on Startup and 500 on Scale. Consent is required, and you may only clone voices you have the right to use. For an ad, that means a written agreement with the person whose voice it is.Cloned voices are included on paid plans: 3 on Starter, 50 on Startup and 500 on Scale. The team behind Chariot has built voice work for Cadbury, Coca-Cola, Johnson's Baby, Zomato and Doordarshan, so the questions an agency asks about a brand voice are not new to them.

What does it cost to test twenty versions of a spot?

Credits count generated audio: about 1,000 credits per minute. A 30 second spot is about 500 credits, so twenty versions of it come to about 10,000 credits.

The Free plan has exactly that: 10,000 credits, about 10 minutes, every voice, no card, and you can download your first 5 clips. Starter at ₹499 a month gives 100,000 credits, about 100 minutes, with unlimited downloads and commercial usage rights, enough for a month of variants on most campaigns. Creator at ₹999 gives 250,000 credits and 10 cloned voices. Startup at ₹4,999 gives 1,500,000 credits, for an agency running several accounts. Annual billing gives 2 months free. The Free plan has exactly that: 10,000 credits, about 10 minutes, every voice, no card, and you can download your first 5 clips. Because every version costs the same small amount, you can test voices and scripts against each other in the ad platform instead of guessing which read will work.

How do I get the audio into the edit?

In the web app at platform.chariot.in you type the script, pick a voice, listen, and download an MP3 or WAV. Drop that into whatever you cut the ad in. Through the API, POST https://api.chariot.in/v1/tts returns a WAV file, which is what you want when the versions are generated by a script rather than by hand.

For longer scripts and video ads there is Studio, which works with the full script and the picture.

The voices carry mood as well as words. The clip below is Sarah, a British English voice, whispering a line: useful to hear before you decide a soft read needs a human.

Psst, hey, shh, keep it down, the baby's finally asleep.
