Chariot at Cypher 2026

Chariot showed its speech models at Cypher 2026 in Bengaluru, and co-founder Parth Sarthi gave a talk on what it takes to build frontier AI from India.

Cypher is the yearly AI summit run by Analytics India Magazine (AIM). Its tenth edition was held at KTPO, Whitefield, in Bengaluru from 7 to 9 October 2026.

At the booth

Visitors could try Chariot’s models in their own language and see early results of its speech reasoning work: AI that understands, generates and reasons in speech itself, instead of turning speech into text and back. Chariot-1 handles the major Indian languages and code-mixed speech such as Hinglish, in real time, running in India. The team also showed Chariot Studio, for making audio content.

Research, Capability, Sovereignty

On 7 October, Parth Sarthi gave a talk titled “Research, Capability, Sovereignty: Building Frontier AI from India”. He started with what sovereign frontier AI means: not fine-tuning someone else’s model on local context, but owning the recipe, producing new ideas and keeping up as the frontier moves.

Speech AI, he argued, is still in its pre-GPT era, with a separate model for every task, and today’s cascaded voice pipelines lose most of what matters about how something is said. He made the case for native speech reasoning models that listen, think and speak in one system, and pick up hesitation, tone and context the way people do. Closing the gaps between speech and text, and between English and low-resource Indian languages, should come from new architectures rather than brute-force data.

He closed on capability: hardware can be bought, but the ability to build frontier AI is a muscle India has to develop for itself.
